Revolutionizing tv broadcasting with next-gen. Content delivery to homes and venues

By 3 Ottobre 2024No Comments

Video consumption is continually growing worldwide, however, delivering a high-quality experience, irrespective of the available network, remains a challenge. Latency issues, limited bandwidth and lack of affordable data packages can all have an impact on providing a high-quality video experience.

Recognising this unique challenge, new content delivery solutions based on the DVB-Native IP standard are redefining the future of video broadcasting. DVB-NIP allows the distribution of IP native mABR content (the format used by OTT and targeting handheld devices and SmartTVs) through broadcast channels, like satellite. Combining the flexibility of OTT and second screens, with the reliability, reach and quality ensured by broadcast channels, DVB-NIP is set to change our expectations for audiovisual content delivery.

For broadcasters and OTT service providers struggling to stream content to IP-enabled devices beyond traditional broadband distribution methods, the DVB-Native IP standard can enhance audience reach and ensure quality of experience, enabling service scalability at predictable costs, consistent user experience, broader end-user reach and greater sustainability.

For next-generation DTH TV services, it offers a multi-screen, multi-room experience on any device, bridging the digital divide in areas with limited broadband access and reducing reliance on terrestrial internet infrastructure. End-users can enjoy a seamless viewing experience across multiple devices, with no rebuffering or latency issues, all while ensuring no additional data costs when streaming TV on mobile devices at home. At IBC 2024, Eutelsat, in collaboration with Italian public broadcaster Rai, and technology partner Inverto, showcased live DVB-Native IP distribution using the DVB-I standard for content discovery.

In the hospitality industry, DVB-Native IP enables hotels in poorly connected areas to receive OTT content without relying on the internet. Leveraging the efficiency of broadcast networks to distribute IP-native content over traditional broadcast channels, venues can deliver an optimum multi-screen viewing experience to all guests. The solution is being trialled by Sky Italia, part of the Sky Group, at a selection of hotels and bars, enabling them to offer clients broadcast quality content available through streaming, while avoiding the local network limitations that can affect live content.
